The Workshop Aberfeldy was set up by Paul Parmenter and Gina Wallace in June 2014, becoming an independent charity in 2016.
Our aim was to create a bridge between education and employment for young people in Highland Perthshire, where our rural location can limit employment and training opportunities. We wanted to create a genuine business where young people could gain direct practical skills as well as transferable employability skills such as teamwork and time-keeping, empowering them to successfully find employment or further training.
Over time, we realised that many of our trainees face some kind of additional barrier to employment, from mental health challenges to physical disabilities. We offer targeted support for this group, offering meaningful learning and interaction opportunities.
We are open to everyone to learn skills and create personal development opportunities. We have also developed volunteering programmes that utilise skills in our community and tackle rural social isolation. Perhaps most importantly we make sure there is always time for a cup of tea and a chat!
We’re incredibly proud of our team, the people we work with and our community. Together, we are transforming people’s lives.
